Best of the Year 2012 Awards (Games, Movies, Music, Comics, Etc.)

2012 sure looks like it was a really great year for a lot of stuff! What did I think was the best of the best? Well, let’s see!

Games

I did not actually play very many games in 2012. And I didn’t play any bad ones, so this list is far from complete. However, I am confident this does encompass some of the best games of the year regardless.

Game of the Year:

Kid Icarus Uprising (3DS)

As you may have read in my absolutely glowing review of this game, I find it hard to believe anybody could think that this isn’t one of the best games of this year. I find it to be the best; I even still play it today, playing my favorite chapters, grinding away to finally get the perfect weapon, and then battling out in multiplayer.

Runners-up:

Mass Effect 3 (Wii U, PC, PS3, 360)

Despite my negative opinion of the ending (that was migitated by the Extended Cut, but my main complaint was far from erased), this game was an absolute masterpiece, and one of the greatest experiences of my life for 90% of it. Playing three games in a row where your choices matter and everything you do carries over is brilliant; I encourage all story-based games to do this, as it really makes the series experience that much more worthwhile!

Xenoblade Chronicles (Wii)

This game, even though it’s on the Wii, is gorgeous, has great voice acting, an even better story, and an almost-addicting battle system. Everything I hate about JRPGs is addressed here, and I love it to death.

Honorable Mentions:

Spelunky (360), Fez (360), Nintendoland (Wii U), Pikmin 2 (Wii re-release) (yes I’m counting this, it deserves it)

Movies

This category is a bit bigger than the others, due to the fact I’ve seen a ton of movies this year in theaters; 18 in total (okay that doesn’t sound like much but it’s 15 more than I usually see). So There are a couple awards I will give here.

Best Picture

Avengers

I don’t feel like I need to say anything, really. Avengers was one of the most perfect films I have ever seen, and I’ve never met a person who says much differently.

Runners-Up

The Dark Knight Rises

It was everything I had hoped for and more; the most satisfying ending to any trilogy, really. I actually thought it was better than The Dark Knight, which is a very unpopular opinion, but it is mine. Bane didn’t top Joker as a villain, but the overall plot was fantastic, and the ending was so brilliant that I almost stood up and clapped after it was all over.

Looper

While the time travel mechanics were frustrating at times, they worked well, and they told a beautiful story of a man, his future self, and the fate of the planet. Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Bruce Willis both did standout jobs here.

Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance

While I simultaneously think it was one of the biggest pieces of trash this millennium so far, Ghost Rider 2 was absurdly entertaining in all the best ways. Even if it isn’t categorized as one, it was by far the best comedy I’ve seen in a long, long time.

Les Misérables

Having not read the original material or seen the musical, I had no idea what to expect in this film, and wow, I was impressed. It was much closer to an opera than a musical, but that’s not a bad thing. Everyone in the film gave their best performances, especially Jean Valjean himself Hugh Jackman, and Russel Crowe was totally a good singer. I don’t care what anyone says.

Honorable Mentions:

Prometheus: Grand in scope, and the best kind of scary.

Dredd: It’s like a generic cop movie… but with great gritty comic book-vibes. My favorite action movie in a while.

Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey: The much more light-hearted feel than Lord of The Rings makes everything much more fun to watch, with much less drama. It certainly isn’t better than Lord of the Rings, but it’s still a great film, and I expect the next two to be even better.

Skyfall: The best James Bond movie in years! And I never expected them to actually delve into the origins of the character. Woah.

Man With the Iron Fists: It was cheesy, it was violent, and it was a damn fun movie to watch. RZA’s Director/Actor/Writer/Soundtrack debut was great, and I hope he makes many more movies.

Other awesome movies: Men in Black 3, Amazing Spider-Man, Resident Evil Retribution

Best Actor/Actress

Joseph Gordon-Levitt- Looper – A fantastic performance in a fantastic film.

Runners-up:

Hugh Jackman – Les Misérables

Michael Fassbender – Prometheus

Tom Hiddleston – Avengers

Joseph Gordon-Levitt – The Dark Knight Rises (Yes, again)

Nic Cage – Ghost Rider 2

Best Visual Effects

Avengers: It was easy to forget that in most of the scenes of the movie, two of the main characters Iron Man and Hulk were just CGI creations.

Hobbit and Dredd are the runners-up. Both were certifiably amazing, as well.

Best Score

The Hobbit wins this, which is easy to say considering it’s a Lord of the Rings movie. Man with the Iron Fist had a very unique and well-crafted soundtrack as well, and Avengers was top-notch.

Music

There were an incomparable amount of amazing albums this year; I can barely pick my favorites outside of the top two or three. Hopefully I don’t forget any!

Album of the Year

Preschtale cover art

Preschtale – C-Jeff

This musical odyssey was the most pure fusion of Prog Rock and Chiptunes, and some of the most fun stuff you’ll ever hear. It came out on January 1st, 2012, and it has been the by-far winner of this award for me ever since. Only one album reached its status, and got this award as well in an awesome tie:

One Year Older cover art

One Year Older – Jit

All Homestuck albums are great (you’ll see more later, I promise), but this one…. (pff)… takes the cake. The closest any music has ever made me to crying. The Scratch and Skaian Shrapnel are the best of the album.

Runners-Up:

Induction – Svix: Wow. This thing is awesome, and is a great use of musical motifs. I usually am not a fan of autotuned/robot singing and all that, but Induction is completely different.

Comfortable Bugs – Bowman: Barely released a couple weeks ago,

Ithaca – Bowman: Bowman’s debut solo album didn’t make as much of an impact as Mobius Trip & Hardon Kaleido, but it was sure as hell great.

The Earthen Scar – Eidolon Orpheus: How Eidolon Orpheus could make an album out of a few original songs and some songs from a scrapped album is beyond me, but he pulled it off, and this fantasy journey is totally rad.

Blueshift – Protodome: Another late release, but this third entry in Protodome’s series of chiptune jazz albums is the most polished one yet, and even has vocal songs this time!

Fez – Disasterpiece: Atomspheric, ambient, and very peaceful. I love it.

We Are All Sattelites – Clark Powell: Plazmataz sure has a way of making music amazing, and this album is no exception.

Honorable mentions (No particular Order):

I Miss You: Earthbound 2012 – Ubikitune

Do Without – Screamcatcher

Homestuck Volume 9 – Homestuck

Omegalodon – RJ Lake

Genesis Frog – Albatross Soup

Nightlife Nightlight – hrmnzr

ColoUrs and Mayhem A– Homestuck

Stray Cat ~Walkabout~ – Cat Boss

ColoUrs and Mayhem B – Homestuck

Starhaven – Block Monster

Spelunky OST – Erik Suhrke

Chiptune Inferno – SuperVolcano

Spiritwake – Solatrus

Jazz and Masks – Cat Boss

Make Music, Throw Music: A Yoshi’s Island Tribute – Ubikitune

And a super-special shout out to Chiptunes = Win and its first three albums this year. I am looking forward to seeing the group expand this coming year!

Comics

2012 was a huge year for the comic industry, with the Avengers, Amazing Spider-Man, and The Dark Knight Rises all coming out this summer, and in the comics themselves, DC’s New 52 relaunch completed its first full year, and Marvel’s Avengers vs. X-Men shocked the world. What were my favorites?

Comic of the Year

Homestuck

Yeah yeah, I had no indication that I was counting webcomics, but I am. Homestuck has only gotten better in its third year, as the end of the comic draws nearer and nearer, With its insane fanbase, monumental Kickstarter, and more storytelling scope than anything I’ve ever seen, Homestuck is the winner of this award for good reason.

Runners-up:

Gunnerkrig Court: It’s slowly building itself up towards a gigantic climax, and though it isn’t quite at Homestuck level, it’s getting there. Tom Siddell’s writing is top-notch, and his art is beautiful.

Dinosaur Comics: Still the funniest comic ever, even with its gimmick being almost a decade old.

Honorable Mentions:

Amazing Spider-Man

Saturday Morning Breakfast Cereal

Green Lantern

Hawkeye

Darths & Droids

Moe

Red Lanterns

Avengers vs. X-Men

Romantically Apocalyptic

Best Events of 2012

Not really in any particular order, nor are they actually the best things that happened this year.

Act 6 Intermission 3 (Homestuck)

Three nearly hour-long (each) flash games, along with one ten-minute ending movie, all released this fall in Homestuck, expanding the lore of the comic tenfold, introducing twelve new characters, and giving tons of character development to some of the major characters. I wouldn’t be surprised if these games alone convinced tens of thousands of people to start reading Homestuck, after seeing so much about it on tumblr and other places.

Humble Indie Bundle V

Yes, there had been many Humble Bundles before it, but this one was the one that catapulted the service into gigantic popularity. Four of the best games of this generation (Limbo, Bastion, Amnesia: The Dark Descent, Swords & Sorcery) and one of the best games of last generation (Psychonauts) were on the table to start with, and it later expanded to include Super Meat Boy, Braid, and Lone Survivor. All for around 8 bucks, and it included their complete soundtracks and everything. I don’t think this bundle will ever be topped for several years, if ever.

The World Didn’t End!

Of course, this is the greatest thing to happen to us! The Mayans spared us…. Now, what other doomsday prophecy is about to pass that will definitely never come true?

This is… all of the awards I have. Thanks for reading, and have a happy 2013!!!!

What I’m Looking Forward To in 2013

Before I make my “Best-of 2012” article, I will look ahead, and see the most exciting things that lie wait in the upcoming year!

Video games

—–

There are three games I am extremely excited about, and will definitely buy that are coming out this year:

  • The Wonderful 101: This game is by Platinum Games; the concept is a Pikmin-style action game where you gather 100 superheroes, go around the city, and beat up monsters. It’s ludicrous  and looks absolutely amazing. Plus, 4-player multiplayer. What that entails is intriguing.
  • Fire Emblem: Awakening: This game is the perfect Fire Emblem. Adjustable difficulty levels, including nondeath modes, for people like me who suck at games. Good multiplayer. DLC support. CGI Cutscenes that are voiced. A story that links all the previous Fire Emblem series together. Portability. And generally, it’s just going to be the best Fire Emblem of all time, and it comes out in February. Cannot wait.
  • Pikmin 3: Obviously, if Wonderful 101 is on this list, this is going to be too. This game has been almost 9 years in the making, and I am ecsatic for it. My expectation level is currently beyond Game of the Year 2013; it’s Game of the Decade 2010s! I will never be more pumped for any video game until Super Smash Bros. 4 news starts coming out.

Movies

A couple movies that I am most excited for. You can see my full (first-version) list of movies I’m looking forward to in this article.

  • Oblivion: Since the trailer came out, I am generally thinking this movie is going to be amazing, and dominate the box office until Iron Man 3 comes out, much like Hunger Games did before Avengers this year.
  • Iron Man 3: I have full confidence this movie is going to be great. I liked Iron Man 2, unlike many people, but I know this is going to top it.
  • Star Trek: Into Darkness:  There’s no way this can flop. Absolutely no way.
  • The Man of Steel: From that trailer that recently came out, I am super pumped for this. It’s almost going to be like… The Dark Knight, with Superman???????
  • Pacific Rim: It’s like my favorite animes… in movie form!!!!!!
  • Thor 2: I want to see how Thor can do without a forced romance plot (since there’s already a love interest fulfilled), and without Loki as the central villain. It has me very interested.

Comics:

These comic events have me pretty excited for 2013:

  • Superior Spider-Man: I am in the extreme minority when I say that I can’t wait for this new series. Without saying any spoilers, I have to say it’s going to last a while.
  • Justice League of America: A new Justice League book with all the B-List heroes. Can this be successfully pulled off, and can it successfully lead to Trinity War? Let’s hope so!!!!

What I’m not excited for is a dumb Ultron massive crossover. I was actually hoping that 2013 would stay Major Event-free this time, Marvel-wise. 2012 only had AvX, which wasn’t actually that huge, but I thought Marvel was getting over its insane addiction to stupid crossovers, albeit very slowly with some relapses (Fear Itself), after Siege.

I’m also looking forward to the conclusion of the 4-year Modern-Day Epic that is Homestuck. Not that I want it to end, per say, but the ending is quickly building itself up to be the most gigantic climax that we’ll ever see in any webcomic (until Gunnerkrig Court gets to its own climax in like 15 years, but that’s different).

Music: I… don’t really know of any future music plans for 2013. I guess, Bowman and Clark Powell’s inevitable next albums, as well as some more stuff by Hrmnzr and Astro Kid. And Homestuck Volume 10, which may or may not be the very last Homestuck album. Oh, and WellManicuredMan is releasing a Homestuck-related EP on January 5th. That will be exciting.

Other: I’m looking forward to going to college, where I’ll have even less time to post meaningful things on this blog, but I will have many more things to be able to post about.

I’m also hyping up what seems to be an Event Horizon in the number of written works by the Metafic gang, consisting of Ktalaki, WhiteKnight, Kwiko, and I, all from the RealityRevolution forums. Seriously awesome stories are starting to emerge, and it is only a matter of time before…. someone gets published…..

2012-2015: Movies I’m Looking Forward To

There are a bunch of movies that are coming out that I want to see! I will detail them below, in order of release, and why I think they might be awesome. And if I remember, I’ll make an update a few months from now, adding new ones and commenting on how the movies actually turned out, if I saw them.

2012

October 26:

  • Cloud Atlas- It hasn’t gotten very good reviews, but I am a huge fan of time travel, alternate universes, generational gaps, and stuff like that. I’m thinking that I may enjoy it much more than critics, if only for that.

November 2 (My birthday!):

Wreck it Ralph- This is a given. Any video game fan ever will want to see this movie, and I am almost certain that it will live up to the hype. There’s a football game that night, so I won’t be able to see it on my actual birthday, but I will definitely see it as soon as I can on Saturday.

The Man with the Iron Fist: This movie looks like it’ll have some of the best fight scenes out of any movie for the rest of the year, and the soundtrack is already out (http://soultemplemusic.bandcamp.com/album/the-man-with-the-iron-fists-deluxe-ultra-pak) and is great.

November 9 (I will be in New York City this entire weekend, so I won’t be able to see any of these until later):

  • Skyfall: A new freakin’ James Bond movie! Can’t wait. I was impressed by Quantum of Solace, unlike some people, and I have high hopes for this one.
  • Lincoln: The trailer gave me chill bumps. Oh man this movie is going to be perfect. And oh man this movie is probably going to flop at the box office but win Best Picture.

November 21:

  • Rise of the Guardians: This movie will either be amazing and win Best Animated Picture or flop and be yet another forgotten Dreamworks film. I am hoping for the former, as it looks awesome.
  • Red Dawn: There’s no way this movie will be good, but it has Chris Hemsworth and freaking Josh Peck. I will definitely at least see this at the cheap theater.
  • Life of Pi: I saw the 5-minute preview for this movie before Prometheus back in June and this is definitely going to be one of those movies. The 3D is probably going to be amazing, too. (I am a fan of 3D movies when they are not terrible conversions, which basically means like two films a year, and then a couple good conversions like Avengers)

November 30:

Universal Solider: Day of Reckoning- Universal Soldier is back! Let’s see if this thing ends up being a decent action flick, because I love the premise. (Fun Fact: I always get this and Full Spectrum Warrior, a game by Pandemic Studios, mixed up.)

and luckily, there’s a break in December, with relatively few movies coming out for most of the month. This will mean that I can see maybe even most of these in theaters!

December 14:

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey- I don’t have to explain this.

December 25:

Django Unchained- A western movie plus a 70s Blaxploitation flick, directed by Quinten Tarantino, starring Jamie Foxx, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Samuel L. Jackson. I can find nothing to not be excited about in this.

2013

TBA:

  • Riddick: I always liked the Riddick series, especially Pitch Black. I actually didn’t even know that they had started filming the sequel yet, and apparently it’s already in post-production. That’s always good to hear.

February 14:

  • A Good Day to Die Hard- What better way to celebrate St. Valentine’s Day than a good helping of Die Hard?

March 1:

  • Jack the Giant Slayer- Could be good, though the delay concerns me, if it really was just for the special effects or not.

March 8:

  • Oz: The Great and Powerful- We’ll see about this one. I haven’t even seen a trailer yet.

March 29:

  • GI Joe: Retaliation- I know full and well how silly this movie is going to be, and I know full and well that I’m going to enjoy every second of it.

April 12:

  • Oblivion- Somewhat-Post-Apocalyptic Sci-Fi with Morgan Freeman and…. Tom Cruise…. As long as this isn’t some sort of allegory for Scientology, I think it might be pretty good. The City-in-the-clouds concept has always intrigued me, probably because of my rabid Star Wars fanboyism as a kid.

May 3:

  • Iron Man 3- The trailer just came out, and oh wow it looks amazing. But there is this very slight fear of mine that it could suck, and whoever made the trailer was simply very clever at editing. But this is one of those “Emotional Hero’s Journey” type stories, so it’s likely to actually be good, as long as they don’t take out the trademark Iron Man humor completely. I am not a fan of the Iron Patriot being in the movie, though. Nobody deserves to wear that suit besides Norman Osborn. The character makes the suit, not the other way around. I have confidence that it will be done well, though.

May 10:

  • The Great Gatsby- The book was dull, but it was a very good story. If the movie is done well, then it’ll help a whole new generation learn about how the American Dream is kind of stupid.

May 17:

  • Star Trek: Into Darkness- Star Trek 2 booyeah! The first film was one of the best movies of 2009, and I’ve been hyping the sequel ever since. The reboot series really seems to get it right, where much of Star Trek bores me, outside of The Next Generation. It being so much like Star Wars can’t hurt at all.

June 7:

  • After Earth- I have tepid interest in this film. On one hand, it has the Smith family and a bunch of sci-fi. On the other hand, it’s an M. Night Shyamalan movie…. We’ll see.

June 14:

  • The Man of Steel- Zack Snyder + Christopher Nolan + Superman = this could easily be a Best Picture contender, though people don’t seem to be incredibly hyped for it.

June 21:

  • World War Z- You know what? There haven’t been very many actual zombie movies lately (I am not even considering you, Resident Evil 5. There were like what, 50  zombies in that entire thing?). Strange, considering the craze in all other media, with Left 4 Dead and Walking Dead and stuff.  I dunno how this movie will play out, but it needs to be good to ensure the survival of the zombie genre, because we all know how close to dying it is. /sarcasm
  • Monsters University- C’mon, Pixar! You made a solid string of amazing movies from Ratatouille to Toy Story 3, and while Brave was good, it wasn’t Pixar Good. Make this a sequel worthy of being Pixar Good!

June 28:

Kick-Ass 2: It’s going to be good. Don’t worry. (Fun Fact: I am a Mark Millar Fan. I may be somewhat biased.)

July 3:

  • Lone Ranger- I feel like I’m being way too optimistic when I’m even considering this one to be good, but there’s always a chance that this isn’t another John Carter. And by that I mean it’s going to flop, because the target audience probably hasn’t even HEARD of the Lone Ranger.
  • Despicable Me 2: I can’t lie. The first one was a very good movie, and this may very well be just as good.

July 12:

  • Pacific Rim- Is this what happened to that Godzilla movie that Legendary Pictures was making at one time? No idea, but it has Kaiju, Mechas, and it reminds me of Battleship just enough that I’ll probably want to see it even if it’s bad, in hopes that it is just as corny as Battleship itself.

July 19:

  • RIPD- I am always optimistic about comic book adaptations, and though I don’t know very much at all about this besdies the premise, it does have some star power (Ryan Reynolds, Jeff Bridges, Kevin Bacon), so maybe it’ll hold up.

July 26:

  • The Wolverine- Yeah I know, I know. The chances of this getting higher than a 40% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes are next to none, but Wolverine in Japan is just a really cool concept, and the Silver Samurai is an awesome villain. The less it connects to the rest of the franchise, the better, as not to overload on superheroes in 2013 before the insane amount coming in 2014.

August 2:

  • 300: Rise of an Empire- No Zack Snyder, and nothing to directly adapt like the original, but it could be good. Chances are it’ll be another Wrath of the Titans (or Clash of the Titans for that matter), but meh. I was hoping for Xerxes, myself.
  • Red 2- It’ll be a fun movie. It probably won’t be a runaway success, unless Smurfs 2 and The Wolverine AND 300-2 are all exceptionally horrible, but it could happen.

September 20:

  • Star Wars Episode II 3D- No idea why this is coming out in September instead of February like Star Wars releases usually are, but whatever. Star Wars is cool, though I was disappointed by Phantom Menace 3D for not incorporating any deleted scenes into the movie, even the ones that actually added to the film, or not improving the CGI whatsoever, so that it still looks like a 10-year old movie. I’m assuming there will be no changes to this, either, despite the fact Episode II has some of the coolest deleted scenes in the saga.

October 11:

  • Star Wars Episode III 3D- Like I said already. I’ll see it, but I really wish they did something other than make it 3D, even if the 3D is quite good for a conversion. There’s like, a 10-minute scene they cut out of the beginning just because it made the movie longer. But this is a re-release! They should add in all the cool stuff, even if Shaak Ti dies in the scene when canonically she doesn’t. And Quinlan Vos’s fake death? What about that thing? (that one would have to be cleverly edited into the Order 66 scene though as not to interrupt the score)

November 1:

  • Ender’s Game- There’s a movie of this coming out? Yeah I had no idea either. That’s something to look forward to!

November 8:

  • Thor: The Dark World- Make Mine Marvel. I loved the first Thor; this one better knock it out of the park, cosmic-wise, to prepare audiences for Guardians of the Galaxy, which comes out less than a year later.

December 13:

  • The Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug- Once again, I have to say nothing.

2014

TBA:

  • Phineas and Ferb- I’m assuming this’ll be the show’s send-off; there is little chance it’ll be any less awesome than the show itself.
  • Deadpool- I doubt this movie will actually come out in 2014, but if it does, I will be super hyped for it, for obvious reasons.
  • The Flash- Once again, I doubt this will actually release in 2014; the buildup to the Justice League movie isn’t going to be very organized, I don’t think, and Flash and Wonder Woman movies have been in development hell for decades now.
  • Green Lantern 2- The first movie was good fun, except that everyone seemed to hate it. I personally liked it, though if I had seen it when it first came out, I would have hated it since I thought it was going to be a space epic instead of “just” another superhero movie. I think they’ll do better this time.
  • Masters of the Universe- A movie ripe for nostalgia, and just long enough since Conan that everyone will have forgotten about it by the time it comes out.
  • Third Person- Yes it’s a romance movie, but it has 3 separate plots that somehow connect, one of which is between Liam Neeson and Olivia Wilde. They had me at Liam Neeson.
  • Journey 3: From the Earth to the Moon- Oh, The Rock. How you star in such amazing/horrible movies. I am confident that this will be a greatbad movie as well.

February 7:

  • Need For Speed- Hey look, a video game movie in development that isn’t going to have a release 6 months after it’s announced! That means it could… maybe actually be good? (nah)
  • Lego: The Piece of Resistance- An… actual… Lego movie? Woah. Featuring Batman and Superman… as actual characters? Woah. Already filming? Woah. What is up with this thing.

March 7:

  • Invertigo- Dude crash lands in New York City and creates a vortex where gravity is reversed. This is going to be interesting, hopefully.

March 28:

  • Noah- There hasn’t been one of these type movies since Passion of the Christ! Hopefully this will be an epic of… Biblical proportions. /booyeah

April 4-

  • Captain America: The Winter Solider- The Winter Solider story arc was amazing in the comics, and I fully expect it to be even better on film. And apprently The Falcon’s in it; whether it’s the normal or more-realistic Ultimate version, I don’t even know THEY know yet.

April 11:

  • Stretch Armstrong- …
  • Why the HELL does this exist, and why do I want to see it so much?

April 25:

  • Robopocalypse- Steven Spielberg + Robot Apocalypse. This means it might be awesome.

May 2:

  • The Amazing Spider-Man 2- Oh boy, this better be good. I am fully expecting a 2-part trilogy with the 2nd and 3rd movies, both of them about Norman Osborn and the Green Goblin, and if there is anything less than that, I will be so disappointed.

May 16:

  • Godzilla- Hey, didn’t this come out in 2013? Yeah there’s no way this can be better than Pacific Rim, but hey, it’s Godzilla.

May 23:

  • Dawn of the Planet of the Apes- Rise was a great movie; if the remake series continues all the way through the original timeline in chronological order (unlike the original series, which jumped around a bit sort of), I’m sure it’ll get pretty confusing, but it’ll be awesome nonetheless.

May 30:

  • The Good Dinosaur- An upcoming Disney movie about dinosaurs, if the meteor never hit. Interesting premise.

June 20:

  • How to Train Your Dragon 2- The animated series is very… ehh, but the original movie was good fun, and this will probably follow that trend.

July 18:

  • X-Men: Days of Future Past- If it includes Cable somehow so that he can be in Deadpool or Deadpool 2, I am sold. Otherwise, it could be good, but it could also suck. We’ll see.
  • Hobbit: There and Back Again- ‘Nuff Said. Though I am certain about one thing; one of these two movies is going to get moved back or forward. Two juggernauts at once usually never works out well, at least for all the other movies in the next 3 weeks.

August 1:

  • Guardians of the Galaxy- Please include Vance Astro. That’s all that matters. Vance Astrooooooooo

After that:

  • Avatar 2: In Space! oh wait. Underwater!
  • Hulk 2: Can Mark Ruffalo stand on his own as The Hulk? I don’t know. Apparently following Planet Hulk, even though Hulk in Avengers was incredibly likeable compared to any other incarnation ever. The only way I see it happening is if he is accidentally stranded at the end of Avengers 2 while they are in space or something.
  • Angry Birds: If Angry Birds is even relevant in 2015, I will definitely see this just to see how this is even possible.
  • Avengers 2 and Justice League- DC of course planned this on purpose, but 2015 will be the showdown of the titans. Almost literally, if Justice League follows the New 52’s opening story arc and uses Darkseid. Apparently, Justice League will use Green Lantern, The Flash, and Man of Steel, but it can’t just reboot Batman for money, less than 5 years later. That’s be horrid. Unless Blake is the new Batman. Then it’s cool…… I guess…….
  • Ant-Man: Edgar Wright, you are amazing, and you need to make more amazing things faster. I’m disappointed this has become a Phase 3 movie instead of having 3 Marvel Studios movies in 2014 (along with the 3 other Marvel movies set for 2014, and the 2 DC ones…. ok so maybe delaying it was good….), but it’s going to be so so good.

That was really long and took several hours. I feel like I just went through the future, from next week all the way to 3 years from now. |_|

Comic Reactions- Like A Bunch (Part Three) (More Recent Ones- Justice League, Batwing, Ultimate Spider-Man)

No covers this time because I am a tool and I am lazy.

Ultimate Spider-Man Premire Comic (FREE)

It’s a free preview comic thing. It has a short story and then character introductions in the back. I am… wary of the comic. There are cutaway gags and that concerns me. But this is a kid’s comic; maybe that is what the kids are into these days.

Batwing #7

Massacre, the villain, has somehow gotten to Gotham City (something I believe we discussed before) and is trying to kill this Kone dude. Also exposition on what exactly the hero guys did, which is cool. I also miss the old artist. 😦

Batwing #8

Finally, the conclusion to Batwing’s first story arc! It is a pretty awesome ending, as all of the loose ends are tied up. Also a shocking revelation of who Massacre is… Except that I realized who it was just a couple pages before. Just try not to guess and it won’t be too obvious 😛

Justice League #7

Justice League vs. the US Government Bureaucracy! Also a Shazam backup story, which is cool except why didn’t they wait a couple months and put it in DC Universe Presents? I guess to keep Justice League’s price at $3.99 instead of $2.99…. 😦

Justice League #8

Green Arrow is a douche. Not like Guy Gardner level, but he is pretty bad in this issue. Also apparently Martian Manhunter used to be a member of Justice League! When was there a random timeskip?

Comic Reactions: Like a Bunch (Part 1: Avengers)

Seeing Avengers on May 4 has prompted me to do quick reviews on all sorts of comics. I am reading way too many comics, I think. I have been doing this since May 5, and I have about 50 or 100 comics to do quick reviews and reactions for! Prepare for a bunch of dumb comic posts because I am definitely going to have to split these up.

The Nam #14

I did a rap version of this comic on my upcoming album, “The Rap-Off 2”. Look for it soon. But this comic is…. odd. It’s like a silly World War II comic, but the Vietnam War. A highly inappropriate war to do anything with because it was… not a very well-regarded one.

New Avengers #23

Finally. A conclusion to the Osborn-New Dark Avengers-Hammer-Hydra-AIM story thing. It was such a cool concept but it was executed so stupidly. It should have been a comics event, I regret to say. I know events are usually dumb, but this is one story that could have benefited from it! I mean seriously; three of the world’s most dangerous villain groups all teaming up, having acquired the DNA to several major heroes…. and then they are defeated within 12 issues among 2 different comics. Osborn was the crappiest purple final boss ever. But you already know my opinions on this. This issue is dumb because Hulk’s son is a huge deus ex machina plot device, but cool because of the art and that it is the introduction to the new Thunderbolts re-structuring, Dark Avengers! I am subscribing to it starting Dark Avengers #175; I hope it is really good.

New Avengers #25

A touching Jessica-Luke Cage conversation about the dangers of being an Avenger and the protection of their baby. The only problem I have with Bendis’s kind of comic writing in New Avengers is that, while it is really good, it decompresses the comics SO MUCH. It is good for the trade paperback, but not for the issue. Luckily, there are a few other cool scenes in this issue that show Red Hulk being a badass motivational speech giver twice. There’s also a really cool Avengers group shot, of all the current members of the three teams. I count 25 (28 with squirrel girl, jarvis, and Dr. Strange’s helper guy) but I feel like there are a few missing. I know Iron Fist is, even though he was on the previous page…

New Avengers #25

Some weird thing about a bunch of superheroes hundreds of years in the past training some girl who is definitely related to Jean Grey/Phoenix/Hope in some way. She becomes the next Iron Fist and uses the Phoenix’s power…or….something. I have no idea what was going on.

Avengers #24.1

It reintroduces Vision to the world after he was brought back to life by the Scarlet Witch…. just after the Other Vision was killed…. Yeah. I have 2 problems with this comic: 1) The art is ugly. It makes everyone look old. 2) It actually copypastes several pages from Avengers Disassembled. No changes. We are limited to like 32 pages per comic; I don’t want to pay for something already made 10 years ago!
Other than that it’s okay I guess.

Avengers #25

Some really crappy Captain America comic that has nothing to do with AvX at all except for the ending. And the art is bad. Walter Simonson is not bad, but the coloring and inking or something must have gone wrong because it just looks bad.

The Avengers Initiative (One-Shot)

It’s a movie tie-in and an introduction to each of the heroes. Absolutely the most useless print comic I have ever read. Why does this exist?

Homestuck Marching Band Show (UPDATE)

This is a powerpoint that I have made for the concept of a Homestuck Marching Band Show! Share this with everyone! I will repost this as many times as I possibly can because this must become a reality!

I am basically reposting this.

Comic Reactions- Free Comic Book Day

Free Comic Book Day was yesterday! (Depending on when I set this article to be published it could be later) The comic book store I went to had a limit of 5 comics per person, so I only have 5 to talk about this time.

Megaman: It’s a prequel to the entire series of Megaman, I guess. It shows Dr. Wily reprogramming all the robot masters to be evil and stuff. You know, typical Megaman. It was pretty cool I guess.

Sonic the Hedgehog: I… have no idea what was going on in this but it ended up with a roboticized Sally and that was kind of weird. The second half of the comic is a selection of prose vignettes for some reason. I think this is all connected to the Sonic: Genesis story arc from last year, but I have not read any Sonic Comics in 6 years so I am not sure.

Adventure Time had its first Free Comic Book Day comic, and it was totally amazing! There are 3 stories in there, and each one is pretty much great.
There is a second comic as this is a flipbook. It is the Peanuts comic. I won’t go into how horrible it is to continue Peanuts after Charles Schulz did not want this exact thing to happen, but I am not a fan. There are also 3 stories on this side, each separated by a Classic Peanuts sunday comic. The new stories are amusing I guess, but the Classic Peanuts comics were the only really good ones.

Avengers: Age of Ultron 0.1: This, along with Avengers v4 #1, was reprinted for Free Comic Book Day. I…. did not realize that I had already read this… I could have gotten something else cool but instead I am kind of dumb >_> The comic is good though. It is a setup for I guess a future event or miniseries of Age of Ultron, coming after AvX I assume.

The New 52 #1: This is the comic that everyone is hyping about. It has an all-new story by Geoff Johns and Jim Lee that is very much connected to Justice League. There’s a whole lot in here that I as a DC reader that started at the New 52 probably don’t even notice. I did see the New 52 Question and I am really wondering how that will play out! The comic ends with a preview for the Trinity War…. I do not know what that is. But it looks weird and it’s coming 2013. Then there’s 2-page previews of each of the six New Wave titles that come out this month. Earth 2 and Dial H look like the best of them.

Comic Reactions- Justice League. Also Winter Solider.

Justice League #5

19:54 Thedude3445 previously in Justice League: all of the heroes are fighting each other because they are all vigilantes and believe the others are criminals. darkseid invades earth. an explosion causes cyborg to become cyborg.
19:54 Thedude3445 darkseid himself arrives.

stuff happens and it makes me unable to post for a few minutes.

20:02 thedude3445 justice league.
20:02 thedude3445 darkseid. he blows up some planes and the flash is like noooooooo that redshirt was my brother or something like that.
20:02 thedude3445 this is the first page.
20:03 thedude3445 superman is like going to punch him, but flash is like “screw you superman” and picks him up and carries him away from darkseid’s omega beam
20:04 thedude3445 his omega beam disintegrates life, if you have ever watched superman animated series you would know htis.
20:04 thedude3445 they run MILES from this beam. wow this is crazy.
20:04 *** KMSumrall joined #MSPA
20:05 thedude3445 and then when the beam hits a random mook it makes like a gigantic explosion
20:05 thedude3445 then superman gets hit by a beam anyway
20:05 KMSumrall dani, we meet again on the battlefield
20:05 thedude3445 and a mook carries him away to the wicked witch’s fortress.
20:05 thedude3445 the wicked witch being darkseid.
20:06 *** LegendaryQ quit (Connection reset by peer)
20:06 Dani KMSUMRALL.
20:06 thedude3445 green lantern tries to beat up darkseid but gets owned horribly while all the other justice league guys pretty much just watch.
20:07 KMSumrall i got nothing to add, daniel990
20:07 thedude3445 lol!!!
20:07 thedude3445 hal and batman are arguing
20:07 thedude3445 and then batman’s like “we are really alike”
20:08 thedude3445 and takes off his mask
20:08 *** gG_birthdays quit (Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client)
20:08 thedude3445 “My name is bruce wayne”
20:08 thedude3445 and then hal’s like “who the hell is bruce wayne”
20:08 thedude3445 making the reveal completely useless
20:08 KMSumrall dude what the hell are you talking about?
20:08 Dani AAAAAAAAH.
20:08 KMSumrall why are you narrating this comic or whatever here?
20:08 thedude3445 I am reading through justice league #4, KMS
20:09 Dani MY EYEEEEEEEES.
20:09 KMSumrall why are you telling this to the board?
20:09 thedude3445 I have been doing this for a while now,
20:09 thedude3445 I have this big stack of comics and I need to read them all
20:09 thedude3445 why am I doing this?
20:09 thedude3445 logic lol
20:09 KMSumrall tell the board
20:10 KMSumrall why are you telling narrationg this to the board
20:10 thedude3445 hmm
20:10 thedude3445 because that is what makes reviews the best. when they are done live
20:10 KMSumrall guess i’ll go do something else for a while
20:10 *** KMSumrall quit (Quit: doing something else)
20:11 thedude3445 oh
20:11 thedude3445 now I feel bad

then some minutes pass of talking about moving the comic stuff to a different IRC channel until I just finish the comic.

20:27 thedude3445 well I already finished the rest of Justice League #5 like 5 minutes ago so I will just give a summary and it is that batman hops on a mook to go wherever superman is and then lands on some weird alien planet presumably darkseid’s home planet that i cant remember the name of.

Justice League #6

21:22 thedude3445 ok so reading now
21:23 thedude3445 random civillians definitely about to get killed by darkseid
21:23 thedude3445 and of course the justice league saves them.
21:24 thedude3445 and they fight darkseid again
21:25 thedude3445 apparently the whole reason darkseid is here is for wonder woman.
21:25 thedude3445 wtf
21:26 thedude3445 they are looking for the daughter of darkseid
21:28 thedude3445 so many splash pages
21:28 thedude3445 like all of the splash pages.
21:29 thedude3445 not as many as the last few issues of The Ultimates 2 of course
21:29 thedude3445 but a lot
21:31 thedude3445 cyborg closes the plot device wormholes and banishes darkseid for the rest of the week
21:31 thedude3445 now all of the people are cheering the superheroes on in the rubble
21:31 thedude3445 just like the ultimates in ultimates 1 both volume 1 and 2….
21:32 thedude3445 the president is giving a speech….
21:32 thedude3445 is that bush?
21:32 thedude3445 clinton?
21:33 thedude3445 he’s white and justice league is like older than most of the dc comics, in the timeline at least, so it’s probably not obama
21:33 thedude3445 I guess it’s bush.
21:33 thedude3445 near the end of his term probably
21:34 thedude3445 so that action comics, the definite oldest one (besides all star western and demon nights and all those) is still pretty modern.
21:35 thedude3445 oh and now hal jordan is a douche and doesn’t want to do the team thing anymore
21:35 thedude3445 but there is another pressing threat and they have to mobilize.
21:35 thedude3445 Flash says “you can call us…”
21:36 thedude3445 “the super seven!”
21:36 thedude3445 no….
21:36 thedude3445 no….
21:36 thedude3445 why
21:36 thedude3445 that is a thing that is not even funny.
21:36 thedude3445 and….
21:36 thedude3445 a 1 page epilogue…
21:37 thedude3445 one guy’s like
21:37 thedude3445 “dude there’s tons of these justice league guys. they are calling them all super heroes.”
21:38 thedude3445 and then another guy, no face shown, smoking a cigarette, so probably the illusive man because the other guy has indoctrinated eyes, says
21:38 thedude3445 “well then. i guess they’ll call us super villains.”
21:38 thedude3445 that is either really cool
21:38 thedude3445 or really crappy
21:39 thedude3445 and now there’s a backup story about Pandora
21:39 thedude3445 that chick who was at the end of flashpoint and showed up in the background of all 52 #1s.
21:40 thedude3445 there’s these extradimensional beings
21:40 thedude3445 and they are like the watchers from marvel except human
21:40 thedude3445 and they are all pissed at pandora for merging all the universes into the new 52
21:40 thedude3445 (except earth 2 which is also a thing that still exists)
21:41 thedude3445 and then she shoots the guys who was scolding her.
21:43 thedude3445 of course he can’t die from bullets but he is extra pissed now
21:43 thedude3445 and pandora apparently has to imprison some dude called “the strange”
21:43 thedude3445 probably that guy in the epilogue.
21:43 thedude3445 the end.
21:44 thedude3445 there’s an ad for wecanbeheroes.org which is like donating to help the famine in eastern africa that has been going on for a while now.

Winter Soldier #1

16:37 Thedude3445 ok so it like starts out
16:37 Thedude3445 bucky and black widow are in a casino
16:38 Thedude3445 they are like married or something if i recall correctly
16:38 Thedude3445 they sneak into an area of this hotel and kill everyone looking for some thing
16:39 Thedude3445 one page of exposition to bring up new readers on why bucky is no longer captain america and stuff
16:39 Thedude3445 it is done much better than other #1s I have read
16:39 Thedude3445 scarlet spider #1 being the worst case
16:39 Thedude3445 as it had a 3 page article about the history of the clone saga
16:39 Thedude3445 it wasn’t even in continuity
16:40 Thedude3445 not to say scarlet spider is bad. i liked it
16:40 Thedude3445 just come on why cant you do some exposition
16:40 Thedude3445 yeah so the art in this comic really varies
16:41 Thedude3445 its either bad or really good
16:41 Thedude3445 not only does it vary from page to page but sometimes panel to panel
16:42 Thedude3445 ok so they are going against R.A.I.D
16:42 Thedude3445 an A.I.M. spinoff that obviously does not have modok
16:42 Thedude3445 snore
16:43 Thedude3445 an ad for upcoming issues of the ultimate comics stuff
16:44 Thedude3445 i havent read the comics but damn that cover art is great
16:44 Thedude3445 lots of fighting and spy stuff
16:45 Thedude3445 okay gorilla
16:45 Thedude3445 and okay that one chick from 2004’s secret wars
16:45 Thedude3445 is she STILL alive
16:45 Thedude3445 she wasn’t even ever relevant outside that miniseries
16:45 Thedude3445 why is she alive
16:45 Thedude3445 and why is she talking to beethoven.
16:46 Thedude3445 doctor doom cameo. of course
16:46 Thedude3445 yeah so i don’t know what was going on but i guess it was cool.
16:46 Thedude3445 too bad i dont have issue 2.

Red Lanterns #6

Thedude3445  previously on red lanterns: red lanterns run around and breathe fire at stuff

Thedude3445  a human gets angry and then suddenly becomes a red lantern

Thedude3445 he accidentally breathes fire while trying to talk to a police officer

oh i forgot… he got angry because the police officers killed his brother. so it’s kindof justified

back on red lantern planet…

2 red lanterns fight. idr why

and all of the red lanterns get pissed off at Atrocitus, the protagonist, for it

back to earth. wtf
human guy flies around, utterly confused at why his hair is now on fire and he’s wearing a dorky red suit

Thedude3445

and he crashes

Thedude3445

killing a mother and child
then he broods at a graveyard.also he’s british. so that automatically makes it better
then he kills the guy that killed his grandpa which made his brother attack the police for some reason

he kills him by bashing him on the head with his grandpa’s gravestone

this is a thing that just happened.

Holly_still_AT

there’s a lot of killing here

*** Holly_still_AT is now known as Holy_drawing

Thedude3445

oh yeah

wait

oh no

green lantern guy grander warps in to save the day and defeat the red lantern!

little does the red lantern know

but guy garnder is a huge douche wimp

to be continued

Red Lanterns #7

g

Thedude3445 look at that
17:30 Thedude3445 another flashback
17:30 Thedude3445 or not
17:30 ChocalateDog aaaaaand back
17:31 ChocalateDog and eeeewww DC Comics
17:31 Thedude3445 all of the red lanterns raid a ship or something
17:31 Thedude3445 DC comics new 52 is somewhat good
17:31 Thedude3445 somewhat
17:31 *** LegendaryQ joined #MSPA
17:31 ChocalateDog all od DCs heroes are lame though
17:31 ChocalateDog except Batman
17:31 Thedude3445 actually that may have been a flash forward…
17:31 Thedude3445 red lanterns is cool though
17:32 Thedude3445 human guy needs to kill guy gardnerplease
17:32 Thedude3445 please
17:33 Thedude3445 okay he SAVED guy garnder
17:33 Thedude3445 come on
17:33 Thedude3445 and then red lantern guy flies into space
17:33 Thedude3445 and guy garnder says
17:34 Thedude3445 “where the hell are you going, red boy? you know i can’t leave all these injured folk and follow you.”
17:34 Thedude3445 that’s the point dumbass
17:34 Katai >_>
17:35 Katai I think there’s only really one DC super hero I really like
17:35 Katai Tim Drake
17:35 Katai although I tend to be fond of the speedsters (Flash, Impulse)
17:35 Thedude3445 the red lanterns interrogate some yellow lanterns because sinestro is now a green lantern again
17:35 *** Holly joined #MSPA
17:36 techloveArtist hi again Holly
17:36 Thedude3445 and bleez breathes fire on one of them. like usual.
17:36 Katai okay, the whole green lanturn stuff is just silly to me
17:36 Holly hello~
17:36 Katai because the whole thing is pretty much “Magic ring plot device”
17:36 Thedude3445 i don’t like the flash that much except in justice league
17:36 Thedude3445 it’s like star wars but with 7 factions instead of 2
17:36 Katai I think I like his personality more than anything
17:36 Katai Bart Allen is freaking amazing
17:37 Katai though I’ve noticed I prefer the younger generation of super heros more in general
17:37 Katai maybe because they’re not all brooding and obnoxious
17:37 Thedude3445 lol
17:37 Thedude3445 the reverse of the norms
17:37 Thedude3445 you’d think teen heroes would be the brooding emotional ones
17:38 Thedude3445 okay so now atrocius is all alone because all the other red lanterns deserted him offscreen.
17:39 Thedude3445 he is looking for krona, one of the guardians who he hates and wanted dead for some reason
17:39 Thedude3445 and then he did die
17:39 Thedude3445 but his body disappeared so he assumes he’s alive again
17:39 Thedude3445 nope not krona
17:39 Thedude3445 some old douche named abysmus.
17:39 Thedude3445 oh crap
17:39 Thedude3445 it’s his son but in zombie form
17:40 Katai blinks
17:40 Thedude3445 now he fights all these zombie things
17:40 Thedude3445 (they aren’t actually zombies that’s just the only way I can describe them)
17:41 Thedude3445 bro just stabbed his dad in the chest
17:41 *** Dani joined #MSPA
17:41 Thedude3445 but not in the little hole in his red lantern logo
17:41 Thedude3445 like how vriska stabbed tavros in the hole in the logo on his shirt
17:41 Thedude3445 I love it when people stab in the circles on people’s shirts
17:42 Claus That’s what circles are made fro.
17:42 Claus *for
17:42 Thedude3445 oh yeah so atrocius is dead after 7 issues
17:42 Thedude3445 and now this human guy lands on the planet
17:42 Thedude3445 and now he’s the leader of the red lanterns I guess
17:43 Thedude3445 hey an ad for… batman beyond? a new comic for him? dude
17:43 Thedude3445 it got cancelled when the new 52 started but now it’s coming back awesome!
17:43 *** eqdw joined #MSPA
17:44 Thedude3445 ok so the comic ended. but apparently they are making new teen titans animated shorts on cartoon network that appear during the commericals of the new green lantern and young justice shows

Green Lantern Corps #5

previously on green lantern corps: the guardians have some dudes that hold all of the lanterns in the universe while their owners don’t have them
17:53 Thedude3445 like you know how they just summon the lanterns to charge their rings? that’s where they dummon them from
17:54 Thedude3445 yeah and these guys are rebelling now. with good reason
17:54 Thedude3445 now douche pussy guy garnder is recruiting guys to go save a bunch of green lanterns that have been captured by these guys
17:55 Katai mmm
17:55 Thedude3445 he has found 4 battle hardened dudes called the “mean machine” to do it.
17:55 Katai man, this chicken wrap would be so healthy if I didn’t use fried chicken, tons of cheese, and a heaping load of mayonaise/horseradish sauce
17:55 Thedude3445 lol yes
17:56 Thedude3445 sounds great and will clog all of your arteries
17:56 Katai meh, didn’t need them anyway
17:56 Thedude3445 yeah you migh
17:57 Thedude3445 ok so now the martian manhunter is helping the Mean Machine with their efforts to fight the rebel guys (they’re calle dhte keepers I have found out)
17:58 Thedude3445 ah so exposition
17:59 Thedude3445 the reason these keepers are mad is because in the beginning, the guardians took all the lanterns in the galaxy and put them on their planet
17:59 Thedude3445 and made a pact with the keepers that they guard the lanterns
18:00 Thedude3445 and the lanterns, because they were on the ground, gave tons of energy to the planet and helped all the people
18:00 Thedude3445 but then one day the guardians are like “fuck this” and took them all away for no reason.
18:00 Thedude3445 so the keepers got their lightsabers and are invading oa
18:02 Thedude3445 ok so there is apparently a keeper leader
18:02 Thedude3445 he is wearing a cape and hood and it makes him look like darth vader
18:03 Thedude3445 he is torturing that black green lantern john from justice league the cartoon
18:04 Thedude3445 douche
18:04 Thedude3445 oh cool space fight scene
18:06 Thedude3445 the mean machine is fighting some pirates
18:07 Thedude3445 and they stole all of their weapons because their rings are powerless against the keepers
18:07 Thedude3445 ok its over

Green Lantern Corps #6

18:12 Thedude3445 generic fps intro scene
18:12 Thedude3445 aka they are on a ship giving the mission briefing in the cockpit
18:12 Thedude3445 and then they jump off right into the action
18:13 Thedude3445 it’s a really cool picture im gonna take a picture of it and upload it for the blog article

18:13 Thedude3445 ok so darth vader guy is acting all meancing
18:14 Thedude3445 and he wants to bring the green lantern central battery to the keeper planet as a one up on the guardians for being pricks
18:14 Thedude3445 totally justified
18:14 Thedude3445 torturing the green lanterns? probably not justified
18:16 Thedude3445 hooking up your own people to feed off of their blood to keep your electricity running? probably not justified either
18:16 Thedude3445 eww all the keepers just took off their clothes and now all they have on are thongs
18:17 Thedude3445 they almost got one of the green lanterns to give them a ring
18:17 Thedude3445 but then jon stweart went all badass and broke his neck so that the ring would fly away
18:17 Thedude3445 and now they are all escaping
18:18 Thedude3445 except for the army of lightsaber keepers surrounding the base
18:18 Thedude3445 jon stewart just made a lord of the rings reference? “out of the frying pan and into the firE”
18:19 Thedude3445 jon stewart has the most unfortunate name
18:19 Thedude3445 people probably see that name and instantly think of the irl one
18:21 Thedude3445 they won the fight…
18:21 Thedude3445 by dropping two yellow lanterns off of a ship and making them explode
18:21 Thedude3445 a “fear bomb”
18:21 Thedude3445 wow now everything’s in a yellow haze
18:22 Thedude3445 it’s like the worlds biggest fart
18:22 Thedude3445 but all the keepers surrendered.
18:22 Thedude3445 and now the leaders of the keepers, including darth vader guy, have to bury all the victims by hand.
18:22 Thedude3445 the end.
18:23 Thedude3445 what a good ending
18:24 Thedude3445 let’s just totally forget that this whole thing was caused by the guardians taking away the keepers life source for no reason at all

Green Lantern #6

18:37 Thedude3445 ok i am readin Green Lantern #6 now
18:37 Thedude3445 previously on Green Lantern: sinestro was forcibly turned into a green lantern again
18:38 Thedude3445 everyone hates him still and wants to kill him
18:38 Thedude3445 but he can’t remove the ring.
18:38 Thedude3445 so he has to try and become a hero.
18:38 Thedude3445 hal jordan doesn’t have a ring, but sinestro is manipulating him by making a ring for him
18:38 — vanquishedValiant is away (Auto away)
18:39 Thedude3445 but one that works only when sinestro wants it to and it can’t harm him.
18:39 Thedude3445 okay…. first page and AGGGH NEW ARTIST
18:39 Thedude3445 I hate that
18:40 Thedude3445 can an artist really not stay on a comic for 6 whole issues
18:40 Thedude3445 hal jordan looks like a little kid in this
18:40 Thedude3445 and it is so inconsistent. the coloring and the whole style
18:41 Thedude3445 some pages it is a lot more animes-like than others
18:41 Dani Oh, no, I had this page scrolled up without realizing again.
18:41 Thedude3445 well anyway hal jordan is like “I don’t need to be a super hero anymore” to his gf because sinestro dumped him back on earth.
18:42 Thedude3445 sinestro is now trying to get some guy to wear a magic helmet or some crap
18:42 *** ChocalateDog quit (Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client)
18:43 Thedude3445 to locate Lyssa Drak. no idea who that is.
18:43 Thedude3445 ah so I guess it is an alien girl with a magic book and also almost no clothes
18:44 *** ChocalateDog joined #MSPA
18:44 Thedude3445 uhh some flashbacks or something happened
18:44 Thedude3445 of course flashbacks
18:44 Thedude3445 but I think they were supposed to be a plot twist
18:45 Thedude3445 I have not read enough green lantern to understand what plot twist it is, however
18:45 Thedude3445 maybe it’s seeing into the future, though? idk
18:46 *** eqdw quit ()
18:46 Thedude3445 sinestro takes the helmet off of the bro and shoots it, killing no clothes girl.
18:46 *** JDGA joined #MSPA
18:46 Thedude3445 wait maybe only knocks out
18:46 *** ChocalateDog quit (Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client)
18:46 Thedude3445 all just to find some book?
18:46 Thedude3445 hello jdga btw
18:47 JDGA v_v
18:47 Thedude3445 and now sinestro is making hal be a green lantern again. owned
18:47 Holly :b
18:47 *** Emerl quit (Connection reset by peer)
18:47 *** JDGA is now known as Emerl
18:47 Thedude3445 yeah that’s it

Green Lantern #7

18:53 Thedude3445 hey look the old artist is back
18:53 Thedude3445 less terrible
18:54 Claus Oh It’s because I have two language for my keyboard and I switched between the two.
18:54 Claus Or something like that.
18:54 Thedude3445 they are about to fight the indigo lanterns or some crap
18:54 Thedude3445 wait a minute
18:55 Thedude3445 it was morning when sinestro came to hal jordan and made him a green lantern again, with his naked gf sitting on the bed all embarassed
18:55 Thedude3445 but now it’s night time
18:55 Thedude3445 which mean like 12 hours passed and his gf didn’t even bother to put clothes on or get out of bed at all
18:56 Holly my virus protection is saying the clubhouse tumblr has some kind of malware or whatever
18:56 Thedude3445 lol holly
18:56 Thedude3445 okay…. sinestro is threatening hal jordan saying he has to be a green lantern again or else he’ll kill his gf
18:56 Dani Probably has something to do with Holl.
18:57 Thedude3445 who amazingly, after being roped over to the window by sinestro and then knocked down when hal punches him is able to keep the covers that she was holding on so that she stays decent.
18:57 Thedude3445 oh her name is carol
18:58 Thedude3445 ah so that vision that sinestro saw last issue was not a flashback but a prophecy
18:58 Thedude3445 the guardians are gonna replace the green lanterns and kill all the old ones… or soemthing.
18:58 Thedude3445 and now the indigo lanterns are here to ruin everyone’s fun
18:59 Thedude3445 also carol is secretly a violet lantern
18:59 Thedude3445 what the hell
19:00 Thedude3445 also by putting the violet ring on, her new suit is somehow even less decent than when she wrapped the bed sheets over herself
19:00 *** HarmonicaSonata quit (Connection reset by peer)
19:00 Emerl lol
19:01 *** HarmonicaSonata joined #MSPA
19:01 Thedude3445 ok…. hal wakes up in jail
19:01 Thedude3445 indigo lantern jail
19:01 Thedude3445 also black hand, the villain of the 2009 event “Blackest Night” is now an indigo lantern
19:02 Thedude3445 I thought the new 52 would have rebooted black hand out of existence
19:02 Thedude3445 apparently not
19:02 Thedude3445 indigo tribe basically sucks a lot
19:02 Thedude3445 their emotion that they harness is compassion
19:03 Thedude3445 compared to the other lanterns that have like rage, fear, will, and love and stuff like that
19:03 Thedude3445 yay it’s over

no more green lanterns.

Comic Reactions #1- Batman comix

I have a huge backlog of comics that I have not yet read, and I will be reading them and posting my reactions on the MSPA IRC, then uploading them here. it’s pretty great.

batwing #6

16:01 Thedude3445 previously on batwing:
16:02 Thedude3445 batwing was black and i guess he teamed up with batman at one point
16:03 Thedude3445 blah balh flashback
16:03 Thedude3445 i really like the art
16:04 Holly_still_AT yeah I can’t wait for season 4!
16:04 Thedude3445 there is an ad for “batman: through the looking glass”
16:04 Thedude3445 it is alice in wonderland but with batman
16:04 Thedude3445 that’ll be great
16:04 Thedude3445 not
16:05 Thedude3445 ok batwing rushes in to save this guy from villain man
16:05 Thedude3445 and his tech armor is like so cool
16:05 Thedude3445 another flashback
16:06 Thedude3445 hey look batman is in africa again
16:06 Thedude3445 why is he even here
16:06 Thedude3445 like does bruce wayne have a legitimate reason to be in africa right now
16:07 Thedude3445 i think there was an explanation at some point but i can’t remember
16:07 Thedude3445 oh that was still in flashback i think!
16:07 Thedude3445 maybe
16:08 Thedude3445 idk the ads are distracting me from the comic
16:08 Thedude3445 ANOTHER FLASHBACK
16:09 Thedude3445 oh so the villain is the guy that kidnapped batwing as a kid and made him be a child soldier
16:09 Thedude3445 i am now calling this villain Mr. Kony
16:10 Thedude3445 kony was set on fire and then sliced open a gas tank like a real genius
16:10 Thedude3445 but then he still got away somehow
16:12 Thedude3445 ok so batman, batwing, nightwing, and robin are all going to team up to save some former superhero dudes from kony
16:12 Thedude3445 even though they live in america now so how will he be able to get a plane there when he has all those swords and armor and stuff
16:13 Thedude3445 ok so that’s all wrapped up

nightwing #2

16:22 Thedude3445 previously on nightwing: i can’t remember
16:22 Thedude3445 i read #1 in september
16:23 Thedude3445 it seems that somebody is about to kill nigthwing
16:23 Thedude3445 and then nightwing electrocutes him
16:24 Thedude3445 and he accidentally blows up a car with 2 people in it

16:24 Thedude3445 and has to save them instead of catch the guy

I talk about mass effect 3 and its horrible ending with people for a few minutes.

16:37 Thedude3445 oh yeah I was reading nightwing wasn’t i
16:37 Thedude3445 anyway
16:38 Thedude3445 nightwing has sex with a random chick
16:38 Thedude3445 and fights the vllain guy again.
16:38 Thedude3445 who has 2 wolverine claws
16:38 Thedude3445 yeah that was boring
16:38 Thedude3445 done reading that

nightwing #3

why do comics have so many flashbacks
16:41 Thedude3445 because that’s what this is
16:42 Thedude3445 and a funeral for some random old guy
16:42 Thedude3445 and an ad for the uncharted miniseries
16:43 Thedude3445 like basically nothing is happening
16:44 Thedude3445 there is absolutely nothing witty for me to say. nothing happened.
