What I’m Looking Forward To in 2013

Before I make my “Best-of 2012” article, I will look ahead, and see the most exciting things that lie wait in the upcoming year!

Video games

—–

There are three games I am extremely excited about, and will definitely buy that are coming out this year:

  • The Wonderful 101: This game is by Platinum Games; the concept is a Pikmin-style action game where you gather 100 superheroes, go around the city, and beat up monsters. It’s ludicrous  and looks absolutely amazing. Plus, 4-player multiplayer. What that entails is intriguing.
  • Fire Emblem: Awakening: This game is the perfect Fire Emblem. Adjustable difficulty levels, including nondeath modes, for people like me who suck at games. Good multiplayer. DLC support. CGI Cutscenes that are voiced. A story that links all the previous Fire Emblem series together. Portability. And generally, it’s just going to be the best Fire Emblem of all time, and it comes out in February. Cannot wait.
  • Pikmin 3: Obviously, if Wonderful 101 is on this list, this is going to be too. This game has been almost 9 years in the making, and I am ecsatic for it. My expectation level is currently beyond Game of the Year 2013; it’s Game of the Decade 2010s! I will never be more pumped for any video game until Super Smash Bros. 4 news starts coming out.

Movies

A couple movies that I am most excited for. You can see my full (first-version) list of movies I’m looking forward to in this article.

  • Oblivion: Since the trailer came out, I am generally thinking this movie is going to be amazing, and dominate the box office until Iron Man 3 comes out, much like Hunger Games did before Avengers this year.
  • Iron Man 3: I have full confidence this movie is going to be great. I liked Iron Man 2, unlike many people, but I know this is going to top it.
  • Star Trek: Into Darkness:  There’s no way this can flop. Absolutely no way.
  • The Man of Steel: From that trailer that recently came out, I am super pumped for this. It’s almost going to be like… The Dark Knight, with Superman???????
  • Pacific Rim: It’s like my favorite animes… in movie form!!!!!!
  • Thor 2: I want to see how Thor can do without a forced romance plot (since there’s already a love interest fulfilled), and without Loki as the central villain. It has me very interested.

Comics:

These comic events have me pretty excited for 2013:

  • Superior Spider-Man: I am in the extreme minority when I say that I can’t wait for this new series. Without saying any spoilers, I have to say it’s going to last a while.
  • Justice League of America: A new Justice League book with all the B-List heroes. Can this be successfully pulled off, and can it successfully lead to Trinity War? Let’s hope so!!!!

What I’m not excited for is a dumb Ultron massive crossover. I was actually hoping that 2013 would stay Major Event-free this time, Marvel-wise. 2012 only had AvX, which wasn’t actually that huge, but I thought Marvel was getting over its insane addiction to stupid crossovers, albeit very slowly with some relapses (Fear Itself), after Siege.

I’m also looking forward to the conclusion of the 4-year Modern-Day Epic that is Homestuck. Not that I want it to end, per say, but the ending is quickly building itself up to be the most gigantic climax that we’ll ever see in any webcomic (until Gunnerkrig Court gets to its own climax in like 15 years, but that’s different).

Music: I… don’t really know of any future music plans for 2013. I guess, Bowman and Clark Powell’s inevitable next albums, as well as some more stuff by Hrmnzr and Astro Kid. And Homestuck Volume 10, which may or may not be the very last Homestuck album. Oh, and WellManicuredMan is releasing a Homestuck-related EP on January 5th. That will be exciting.

Other: I’m looking forward to going to college, where I’ll have even less time to post meaningful things on this blog, but I will have many more things to be able to post about.

I’m also hyping up what seems to be an Event Horizon in the number of written works by the Metafic gang, consisting of Ktalaki, WhiteKnight, Kwiko, and I, all from the RealityRevolution forums. Seriously awesome stories are starting to emerge, and it is only a matter of time before…. someone gets published…..

My Ultimate Marvel Collection

I have been trying to read all of Ultimate Marvel so that I can read the newest Ultimate Comics Reborn comics (which I already subscribe to… but I can’t read!!!). But unlike how I caught up in the regular Marvel Universe, I am only reading this legally. No Demonoid for me. This is what I have read so far (some of these I have traded in, some I still have):

Ultimate Iron Man I-II
Ultimate Daredevil & Elektra
Ultimate Spider Man Hardcover Volume 1-5 (hardcovers contain 2 volumes, so it’s actually 1-10)
Fantastic Four Volume 1-2
X-Men Volume 1-13, barring 11
Ultimates
Ultimates 2
Ultimate Annuals
Ultimate Galactus Trilogy
———————
March on Ultimatum
Ultimate Comics Armor Wars
Ultimate Comics Captain America
Ultimate Comics Ultimates Issues 1-5
Ultimate Comics X-Men Issues 1-3
Ultimate Comics Spider-Man (Miles Morales) Issues 1-5

the dotted line is where I have read to. After that, I can’t go on until I at least read Ultimatum and Ultimate Doomsday! This will take a lot of money, I fear, so this might take a while for me to complete. But as I do, I will update this list!

The New 52: My thoughts

I’ve tried to buy as many of the 52 new #1s that DC has been releasing this month so I can do a mini review of them here, since I am oblivious to any of the plot of the comics before the reboot. So far these are the ones I’ve found:

-Batwing: I loved the art and the writing. I am hoping that the plot develops well, too!
– Justice League International: I’m not sure how good the team lineup is (too much C-List and too much Batman), but I’m confident that it’ll get good as time goes on.
-Green Arrow: Great art. Too early to judge the story.
-Static Shock: I dunno. I like Static and the old cartoon was great, but the first issue villain was pretty lame and I am not a fan of Virgil now being a huge genius that has both parents.
-Swamp Thing: Meh. It’s a filler comic anyway.
-Batwoman: Why’s she so pale? Also this is obviously one of the comics that didn’t actually reset anything, leaving new readers like myself clueless.
-Frankenstein, Agent of S.H.A.D.E.: ….WTF. Is this a parody? Please be a humor comic because this is so stupid.
-Deathstroke: Really cliched. Why is Slade so old, too?
-Red Lanterns: If a human, paticularly the grandson (spoilers :P) becomes a Red Lantern, it will make this all worthwhile.
-Green Lantern Corps: This one is cool. It shows the relationship between the Green Lanterns and the people, and the relationships between each other. I hope this folds out well and doesn’t end up just Green Lantern 2, like how Spider-Man had 3 or 4 titles back in the old days of 2006 and it was basically one weekly story.
-Legion of Superheroes: Nigh uncomprehensible to a new reader. Too many characters at once.
-Blackhawks: I know these guys from the Stupid Science section of Superdickery. I want a flying wheel so bad.
-Green Lantern: New Guardians: I was talking to someone earlier that there should totally be a Rainbow Guardian who is badass and fights the biggest cosmic battles in the universe, and then boom. That is what is happening now. I can’t wait for the inevitable splash page where he puts them on.
-Superman: A pretty good one-shot. Probably the only non arc-based story I’ve read so far!
The Flash: Fast-paced (no pun intended) and fun to read. I can’t wait to see how it unfolds.

My plan for War in Blankland: Special Edition

I just now found what I wrote down back in January 2009 about how I wanted to end War in Blankland Special Edition, which can be read at http://wibl.smackjeeves.com , before I even finished Part 7:

War in Blankland 7 & 8

1. Mario & Link & Silver fight Dark Soul and then Mr. Hammer Bro is turned
Shadowheart and pw3ns everyone until Mario uses Rage Power to kill him
and Samus shoots Dark Sould with a beam.

3. Zelda, Marth & a few others fight invading enemies and a romantic tension
looms over the entire part.

2. Aidow and his small team infiltrates a hidden factory created by the
strange Dr. Baron Wolfensein & his minions Goombario/Goombella.

3. The Battle outside of the Rebel’s main base rages on until Shadowhearts
invade(right after Dark Soul is “killed” by Samus) and take over much
of the two armies.

4. Sephiroth and three of his minions appear, ready to anhilate King Tennko
of the Hero Rebellion. Most of the gueststars die attempting to hold him off
in a huge chase across the base.

5. TDB, Reseca, Samus, and Amatatomba arrive at the base with the three
heroes with them to heal. Link refuses medication and instead meets with
Zelda (finally), but they’re interuppted by Dizzy when she comes to tell them
about the Sephy chase.

6. Dark Yoshi, Tennko, and General Fordo (And 3 GFSs)
escape from the rest of the group helping Tennko get away, but once they
reach a dead end, Fordo alone has to duel Sephy in a swordfight.

7. Luigi and Colette battle the giant dragon and ride it into Baron’s Fortress,
where they meet up with the Water Dragon and the two dragons duke it out,
while Aidow and the rest still pursue Baron via Captain Rex’s Ship. Colette
transforms and gets Luigi to safety- until they’re captured by some of the
pirates not on Rex’s ship.

8. Bowser meets with Baron, General Toed, and Lord Knuux of the Echidna Tribe.
The Echidnas accept Toed as their army’s leader, but they refuse to join any
side yet. Once that group leaves, Bowser and Baron discuss the tribe’s
desruction until Luigi and Colette are sent up to have some witty banter
towards the two leaders. (Many Raps Comics Refrences are made)

9. Sephy kills Fordo after Dark Yoshi “misfires” an egg and it hits Fordo.
Dark is knocked out and Tennko is captured.

10. Aidow and men are suddenly in a prison cell and talk about how
Rex was indeed Baron Wolfenstein in disguise. Luigi and Colette
enter outside the cell, and all of them are sentenced to die at
the hands of Baron’s “inventions”.

11. Link shortly battles Sephy before being bounced against the
wall. An airship leaves the naval battle above the base and prepares
to catch Sephy and Tennko.

12. All of Baron’s inventions attack in the arena, but Tiptup, the good
pirate, sacrifices himself and frees them. They escape via the Dragon.

13. On the ground near the base, the dragon is killed and drops to the
ground. Sephy exits and battles the entire group, plus Mario, TDB,
Reseca, Amata, and the Great Generals. He escapes at the last
second before being beaten, and the Bosses’ Guild Navy leaves.

14. Bosses’ Guild Meeting; Bowser and Peach
are married, and then Bowser reveals the plans to the final
battle.

PART 8:

1. Mario and Luigi finally meet again and Wamario tells them about the final
battleplan.
2. A huge army and navy march towards the Boss Base with no resistance,
and show up to find no resistance. Mario and 10 others enter the Castle and
storm it.
3. Bosses’ Guild Meeting; Mirsius is absent and has a represenative; Mr. Pickles.
After much arguing, Sephiroth is appointed Chairman and Bowser is sentenced
to be excecuted for being a horrible leader.
Chaos Erupts, and Dizzy turns into Shadowheart form after Mario
unleashes a Rage Blast that kills Shao Kahn.
4. The Echidnas are resting in one area when General Toed comes and takes
their army towards the base. Lord Knuux has to agree, but is Extremely reluctant to do so.
5. Toed’s army marches and when the base is clearly visible, it shows that
millions of other troops also marched there. A giant battle occurs. Upon
Storming the castle after Mario and that group, Salome & Aidow find out about Pickles being “the traitor” and Aidow fights him.
6. Luigi takes on Sephy in the room, While Mario, Dark, and a few others
pursue Bowser and rescue Tennko. Once the King is recued, Peach
appears and battles Mario for a bit, but mostly taunts him to the point of
collapse. Mario erupts fury onto Peach, but she disappears and
Bowser gives up, but then punches Mario and Dark Yoshi jumps onto a
platform where the two are now fighting. Once Bowser is knocked off onto
the ground and Dark Yoshi attacks Mario. Mario is on the brink of collapse
when Dark Yoshi fuses with Mario to form Rage Mario (Super Fire Mario),
who battles Bowser and his minions, the Echidnas, Dark Soul, and Peach.
7. General Toed and many Echidnas Battle Clide, 50 Dolla, Zelda,
and MattC13. The two battles around the castle merge soon, and the
Shadowheart becomes so powerful that May’s calming techniques don’t
work and it attacks Rage Mario.
8. Aidow knows the end is near and reveals himself to be Lord Mirsius. The
Bosses’ Guild is taken over to be under his control, and they attack the
Shadowheart invaders. Mr. Pickles betrays again to the Shadowhearts so
that they can wipe the Bosses’ Guild Elite out.
9. Luigi and Sephy duke it out for about 3 minutes straight until they are
pushed out of the window and have to dodge Mario until they hit the
platform that Mario used to be on and continue battling as the platform
hits the ground.
10. The Shadowhearts attack the Bosses’ Guild with severe casulties on
both sides. The battle soon is engulfed with the main one and Sephy & Toed
& Aidow battle until Mirsius/Aidow feels remorse and battles the other two.
11. In the end, two huge blasts collide from the two ultrabeings and
it hits the ground, killing* Sephy, Aidow and Toed. the Echidnas rebel
and take out most of the enemies with the help of the rebels, and
Mario and Dizzy return to normal.
*Sephiroth does not die and is seen at the end of the credits in a cave,
surrounded by dozens of Shadowhearts.

NEEDED: Dawn/Hikari appearence. Ayame importance in the main plot.
More gueststar importance in main plot. Old Guy vs. Clide Yoshi.
More scenes of MattC13’s pilot skills. More Character Development
of the Main 5. Sprites of Raps. Love Triangle between Marth, Zelda, and Link.

Project Cafe Idea: Using the 3DS as a controller?

http://boards.ign.com/nintendo_wii_lobby/b8270/201633357/r201645364/?statusId=PostReplySuccess

think that Nintendo will indeed implement the 3DS as a limited controller. The only reason it couldn’t be a full controller is the lack of a second control stick, but we don’t even know the specifics about the controller; there could be no buttons at all or something for all we know.

But it would be VERY wise feature 3DS connectivity. Think of it; Controllers are going to be above $50, maybe even $60. Even when the economy recovers, not that many people are going to want to spend that much money on over 2 controllers. Being able to use a handheld that you already own would be extremely beneficial, and it could even drive sales up for people that are on the fence about buying the 3DS, but want to buy it for its controller capabilities.

Nintendo’s New Console: “Project Cafe”

It just got totally announced on Wednesday. 3 days after my console idea O___O

Anyway for updates on all the info of this new console, I have a Facebook page for Project Cafe: http://www.facebook.com/?ref=logo#!/pages/Nintendo-Project-Cafe/215373875139485

The Next Nintendo Console– Idea

3D (no glasses? Maybe by 2020)
Blu-Ray
Online Experience much like a Social Network/Xbox Live
Extremely accurate motion control
Steam-esque online purchasing/updating/patching system
Firmware updates all the time
Those are “duh”.
1TB CDs if possible, or at least 30GB single-layered?
PC integration for media, internet, programs, ect.
Harddrives at 600GB+
Backwards compatible with Wii/GCN

Older cartridge-based consoles can plug into the new console itself, so that consoles that don’t use the colored-wires like the NES can be used on newer TVs. Also, you can actually WRITE the data/save data of the cartridge and put it on a special Disk, or onto the HDD, though at a price due to royalties and overall profit gain. It can only be done a limited amount of times per cart, because each time it’s done, the Wii2 will write data onto the cartridge that will not allow it to be copied more than, say 10-15 times total. This way all games of the past can be preserved legally, not just those put on Virtual Console. Like even certain pirated games could be copied.

Flash Drive-based games: 16GB flash drive costs $20. $64GB is $100GB. These prices will only decrease as time goes on, and by 2013, most likely, the 64GB will be down to $50 or lower. But seeing how much memory can be put on these, games could be produced on them instead of on Disk! Cartridge gaming could come back somewhat with Flash Drives.

Smartphone/3DS integration:
they can connect with apps, games, and the handheld devices could even be used as controllers for certain games.

Webcam/Augmented reality can improve to the point where Kinect-type gaming can take place in much smaller enviornments than the 3-foot space needed currently.

The old periphrials will be enhanced tenfold: The Balance Board, if not a pack-in with the console itself, will be extremely cheap, nearing $30 by itself. A new version would be released as well, but the differences would be minor.

6+ Players per console! If Rock Band 3 can do 7, I don’t see why there can’t be as many for regular games. Not splitscreen; that would be way too small a screen, but at least for party games like Mario Party, where it would only benefit the game.

The controller: I think that it could be about the size of the Wiimote now, but a little taller and quite a bit wider, but it is made mostly of a touch screen. The B button is still there, but it is much smaller and thinner. Otherwise though, there are no buttons. This way there can be ANY BUTTON LAYOUT YOU WANT. O__O The touch screen could even act as its own screen. Example: Zelda: Four Swords Adventures. To play this you would need to have 4 GBAs connected to the GCN as controllers. Think of these new Wiimotes AS the GBAs, ableit much more advanced. The screen would be much like the Kindle in its low graphical power to retain relative cheapness, though it can play 8 and 16-bit games while someone else is playing something completely different. Yes this controller has a 16-bit processor 8) For those people who absolutely need the control stick (that would include me), there will be an add-on to the controller, packed in WITH the controller itself (+one with the console duh) that includes 2 control sticks, the Triggers/bumpers, and two new buttons on the back(I don’t understand why they never did that before). Here’s a reference for those who aren’t following:

That’s as far as I got in my idea. I’m not sure how much of this will be possible by Winter 2012 so that Nintendo can release a console that is less than $350, but the controller would be the most important aspect of this console. That and Blu-Ray/600+GB HDD of course.

Shadow the Hedgehog Favorites 2

ShtH F2

This was one of the fastest comics I ever made. I was just looking through my sprites, found Yoshi running, and put him running away from the biggest gun sprites I had. I still love how Shadow and Amy’s house is just a huge blank space with furniture, doors, ect. I could have put a background on them all if I wanted to…

Shadow the Hedgehog Favorites 1

Shad 22

I wanted to use the DKC2 Mario, Link, and Yoshi sprites, so I made a school where Yoshi taught Video Game history. I tried to fit as much as I could into a strip, but eventually it got up to like 4 strips long. I guess the few overkill-sized comics like this in ShTH were the beginning to my making huge, 50-panel long comics in Super Smash Bros. Hailfire.
